My Big Mouth

We all can probably think of a time our mouths got us in trouble. The good news, however, is we can learn to use our mouths to get us out of trouble as well. In this blog, I want to share some important thoughts on the power of our words. Too few believers realize that affect their words have on their lives, either for the good or the bad. So here are just a few examples of the power of our words and the influence they have over us.

Proverbs 18:21 KJV

Death and life are in the power of the tongue:

and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Proverbs 18:21 MSG

Words kill, words give life;

they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.

Proverbs 21:23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles. 1 Peter 3:10 KJV For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile

Matthew 12:37 MSG “You have minds like a snake pit! How do you suppose what you say is worth anything when you are so foul-minded? It’s your heart, not the dictionary, that gives meaning to your words. A good person produces good deeds and words season after season. An evil person is a blight on the orchard. Let me tell you something: Every one of these careless words is going to come back to haunt you. There will be a time of Reckoning. Words are powerful; take them seriously. Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your damnation.”

When you consider these verses, you find your words aren’t small insignificant things in your life. It is very clear that we are speaking wither death or life to our lives.  That means your tongue can be a blessing or it can be a curse to you. The good news is learning to say the right things doesn’t have to be overwhelming and it isn’t too hard. It is actually as easy as learning to say, confess, or speak God’s Word over your life. Saying or speaking God’s Word is like learning a new language and the reason you need to learn it is because it is a language of victory. God calls it our confession or faith and a truth we must learn is our faith will never rise above the level of our confession. So this means we must learn to start saying what God says, especially about ourselves. When we do, our words become the spiritual force over our lives God intended for them to be for the good. I want to encourage you to begin daily to speak or confess scriptures over your life concerning three areas. Who you are, what you have and what you can do because you are in Chris. As you begin to faithfully do this, these scriptures will become real to you and you will be able to live these truths out in your life.
