Winning Over Fear

In this month’s blog I want to share with you some thoughts from God’s Word about fear. Fear is one of Satan’s most used weapons against us. Fear tries to rob us of our faith in God and fire for God. We all face and experience fear but its what we do when it hits that determines whether we win or not.

Fear is a negative faith robbing emotion that brings a feeling of dread or terror. It causes us to be afraid, anxious, or apprehensive about a possible or probable situation or event. Fear is one of the greatest weapons and faith robbers Satan has mastered against the church. Many times fear is the first fiery dart the devil releases on us because it paralyzes and brings torment into our lives. Fear is designed to produce doubt and unbelief which keeps us from the promises of God. God knew fear would be one of Satan’s most used weapons against us and such a formidable enemy that He said to us, “Fear not”, 80 times in the scriptures.

So how can we win against fear? Well, we should remember that Jesus established belief or faith in God as a principle to live by, not fear. “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God… Therefor I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” (Mark 11:22,24 KJV). “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” (Ephesians 6:16 KJV).
Fears come to us all but we should know faith wins over fear every time faith defeats fear, our faith in God. We must realize the battle we are in is not natural but spiritual. To be victorious we will have to use the spiritual weapons Jesus gave us. We must learn to be persistent against all fears and fight with the Name of Jesus and the Word of God. The powers of darkness hate the Word of God and must bow to it. So we must love, know, and use the Word of God to win over fear. Every day we will have to make the choice whether to believe the enemies lie and that he’s won. We must also daily believe that God has won our victory.

We can win over the enemy of fear by trusting in the Lord. Real faith is founded upon God’s promises, looks unto God, and it considers God and His Word, which defeats fear. When we learn to resist, answer, and command fear then we defeat fear.

2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us that fear is a spiritual force we can win over. For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, lobe, and a sound mind. J.M. Smith translates it as, … “a spirit of power and love and mastery.” We are to learn to be fears master!
