Prayer is… Part 2

In this blog I will pick back up on the topic of, Prayer is. Last blog I taught on 6 things that prayer is. I’m teaching this to give you a better understanding and a great perspective on prayer and its importance in your life. My goal in this is to inspire prayer. I believe understanding what prayer is helps us to see why we should pray.
  1. Prayer is important because God’s will being done in the Earth is dependent upon it.
    • The will of God is never automatic, it must be prayed for.
    • “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth, as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10 KJV)
    • The Lord’s Prayer reminds us the will of God must be prayed for.
    • We all know we need God, but God needs us too; to pray out His will.
  2. Prayer is a place of hearing, being led, and receiving guidance from God because it is a place of fellowship, communion, and communication with Him.
    • Jesus’ disciples asked Him to teach them to pray.
    • “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God… The Spirit Himself bears witness             with our spirit that we are children of God.” (Romans 8:14,16 NKJV)
    • “Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the Earth.”                 (Psalm 46:10 KJV)
  3. Prayer is important because Jesus modeled prayer, a prayer life, or a life of prayer for us to follow.
    • Jesus is our example. He would leave His disciples and pray early.
    • Prayer is to be a way of life, an intentional part of our lives.
    • “Be persistent and devoted to prayer, being alert and focused in your prayer life with an attitude of                   thanksgiving.” (Colossians 4:2 AMP)
    • “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV)
  4. Prayer is a foundational directive of the Church and is instrumental or key to its success..
    • Mark 11:17 Jesus said, “My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer.”
    • Jesus said this and rebuked those who had forgotten this and tried to make it something else.
    • Jesus expects prayer to be part of every church’s culture.
  5. Prayer is a source of spiritual strength and power.
    • Acts 4:23-31
    • Great things happened as they met together and prayed.
  6. Prayer is part of everyone’s deliverance.
    • In Acts 12 prayer was made without ceasing for the Church unto God for Peter and God sent an angel and      declared Him.
    • Hebrews 7:25
    • “The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the               desire of them that fear Him: He also will hear their cry, and will save them.” (Psalm 145:18-19 KJV)

As you can see, prayer is vital to our lives in many ways. I hope these 12 things that prayer is will inspire you in your prayer life. For a more in depth study about what prayer is you can check out the messages from 2-19, 2-26, and 3-4.
