Winning the Battle for Your Mind

One of the most challenging and ongoing battles believers fear in life has to do with their minds. One thing believers need to understand is the mind is the battleground satan attacks us on. His main weapon is deception which many times, comes in the form of thoughts and suggestions to our minds. What makes this even more challenging is that our enemy is invisible, so we can’t use natural weapons to defend ourselves or to defeat him. The good news is we do have weapons and by using them we can win this battle. Did you know that our minds play an important part in either us walking in victory or in defeat? That is why satan attacks our minds. You see thoughts always precede belief and action. Satan learns if he can get us to think wrong, we will believe wrong, which causes us to live wrong and get undesirable results. Therefore the need for our hearts and minds to be filled with the Word of God, for it alone has the power to overcome the lies of the enemy. That means the weapon God has given us in defeating our enemy is the Word of God. We must learn to vast down or destroy the wrong thoughts of fear and doubt that comes to rob us of peace, joy, and victory. The way we do that is with the Word of God. Notice in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 how these verses accurately describe the reality of the battlefield of our minds and the way to win the war for our own freedom. “Now I, Paul, appeal to you with the gentleness and kindness of Christ–though I realize you think I am timid in person and bold only when I write from far away. Well, I am begging you now so that when I come I won’t have to be bold with those who think we act from human motives. We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do.” (2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NLT) Here believers are admonished to take control over their own thoughts and imaginations so they can prevent the devil’s lies from getting a stronghold in their minds. We must realize that if we want freedom, we must accept God’s Word as truth and being every thought in submission to it. So we cast down or destroy the enemy’s thoughts with the Word of God. Our battle is not a silent one, we must open our mouth and speak out God’s Word against those thoughts and imaginations. The weapon of the Word of God used in faith is powerful to defeat and destroy any stronghold of the mind. This is how we win the battle for our mind.
