The Will of God: Part 1

We are exhorted as believers in Ephesians to understand what the will of the Lord is. That simply means we can know the will of God and it doesn’t have to be a mystery for any of us. Ephesians 5:17 (AMP) reads, therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is. We must realize the will of God is a very important subject that we should give attention to, understand, and become clear in our hearts and minds about. In this blog I want to share a few important things that we should understand about the will of God.

  • The Word of God Reveals God’s Will

God’s Word reveals His will every time and in everything. We simply have to look no further than God’s Word to find His will concerning any subject. This is why our knowledge of God’s Word is so vital because God’s Word not only reveals His will but it is His will.

  • Jesus Life and Ministry was both a Revelation and a Manifestation of the Will of God

Whatever we see Jesus do revealed the will of God for us. In John 6:38 Jesus said, for I came down from heaven not to do mine own will, but the will of Him that sent me. This means Jesus was the revealed will of the Father. In John 14:9 Jesus said, he that hath seen Me hath seen the Father.

Key Thought: Jesus in His ministry is the will of God in action

  • Your Faith in God Begins where the Will of God is Known

The source of all faith is the Word of God because it reveals the will of God. It is impossible to boldly claim by faith any blessing or promise you are unsure God is offering. If we don’t understand God’s Word is His will, it will be impossible to receive any promise God offers.

Key Thought: The Word of God was written so that we can understand and be sure what the will of God is.

  • Just because something is the Will of God Doesn’t Mean it’s Going to Automatically Happen

One mistake many make is to assume just because something is God’s will it has to happen; but that isn’t true. God’s will isn’t automatic and His promises are conditional. God’s Word and promises only work for those who know and believe His will.

Key Thought: The will of God isn’t automatic.

In Part 2 we will discover four things that are the will of God for our lives.
